Examples of ABFT-Approved Resources for Continuing Education:

In general, the ABFT will approve continuing education that meets the following criteria:

  • The activity is in the field of forensic toxicology, as determined by the ABFT.
  • The activity can be fully documented through a certificate of completion/certificate of attendance/certificate of participation. The name of the certificant, the name of the activity, the date of the activity, and the number of credits/hours must be on the certificate to receive credit.

 

Examples of acceptable Continuing Education include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending workshops/presentations at forensic toxicology related scientific meetings including, but not limited to, the AAFS, CAT, SOFT and TIAFT.
  • Presenting at a workshop, or scientific session (platform or poster) at forensic toxicology related scientific meetings including, but not limited to, the AAFS, CAT, SOFT and TIAFT.
  • Journal of Analytical Toxicology CE for members of SOFT.
  • Webinars related to forensic toxicology that provide a certificate of completion.
  • Online courses or short courses related to forensic toxicology that provide a certificate of completion.
  • In‐house continuing education course provided they are in the field of forensic toxicology and provide a documented registration (e.g., transcript) and certificate of completion.
  • Submission of referenced examination questions to the ABFT Examination Committee. Contact the ABFT for more information.

 

Examples of unacceptable Continuing Education include, but are not limited to:

  • Undocumented self‐study or journal reading.
  • Preparation/research for expert reports and deposition and trial testimony.
  • In‐house meetings and/or training that are part of performing your immediate job (whether documented or not).
  • Manufacturer‐provided training on equipment used in your laboratory as part of your job responsibility.
  • Teaching and advising.
  • All activities not determined to be in the field of forensic toxicology by the ABFT.
